The AP has reported that six men are being charged in Federal Court for attempting to kidnap the Democratic Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer. The AP also reports that those 6 men were in contact with a militia group and had plans to overthrow the Michigan Government. Seven other men were charged of targeting police and the State Capital. To give you a history lesson, back in 1898 the duly elected government of Wilmington, North Carolina was overthrown by armed white supremacists. It was a coup d'état. It has called Wilmington insurrection of 1898, Wilmington massacre of 1898, or the Wilmington coup of 1898. It was originally considered a race riot started by African Americans but as new evidence came to light and the fabrications of the usurpers were unraveled, historians began calling it what it was, a white supremacist insurgency and coup. Perhaps, one can still call is a race riot, but one better acknowledge it was perpetrated by whites.

The historical record currently reflects that as the only example, with-in the sovereign territory of the United States, where a violent overthrow of a government occurred and was used to install a regime against equal and civil rights. I worded this very specifically because of the fact that rebellious governments had to be dissolve during the Civil War by the Union Army (plus in Texas, their governor did not support succession and was removed). Not to mention the American backed coup in the Kingdom of Hawai'i. However after that little side note, there are no sources that suggest any other duly elected government in the South, or elsewhere, during reconstruction, or afterwords, that was overthrown in a coup d'état, rather all regime changes where done through elections; that does not mean their were no shady practices, just no direct overthrowing of the government.

Getting back to the news event, what the AP has reported as a failed coup, a failed attempt by opponents of Governor Whitmer (a Democrat), to violently force the government to change or comply with their demands. It is a good thing that it failed, but it is also scary that such a thing even occurred. I will not speak to the political affiliation of the accused beyond what has been reported, but I can speak as to who they opposed, who they were willing to target. They present a danger to a democratic society and should face charges in court. And by democratic society, I mean a society were the government is elected by people, for the people, in fair and free elections.

If they support who I think they support, this individual number one needs to publicly disavow them and tell them not to break the law. Some people have pondered the question on whether or not America is heading for a second civil war, myself included. I think the generally consensus was that its possible, but highly improvable. But I think we need to change the consensus to possible, but unlikely. I do not expect a second civil war to happen, but I cannot dismiss it as a possibility in light of this recent event. I will still say it is unlikely to happen, but I can no longer say it will not happen.

But one thing is for certain, as long as law enforcement does their job and as long as we Vote, America will be fine and we will recover out lost prestige and re-earn respect among ourselves and the international community. Also, is it too much (or too late) to ask for the UN to oversee the 2020 Election.
